Job Opportunity: Bens Ranch at Koteewi Trails Seasonal Guide Position

Bens Ranch Foundation at Koteewi Trails, is excited to announce openings for our 2025 Spring/Summer season. This is a seasonal position running from May to August, with the potential for selected individuals to continue on our Skelton crew during the Fall/Winter season. Our facility remains open year-round, providing opportunities for both seasonal and extended employment.

Employment Details

  • Seasonal Duration: May - August
  • Hourly Rate: Competitive hourly wage of $14/hr. with the opportunity to earn tips
  • Schedule: On Call during the week. Open six days a week (closed Tuesdays), 8 am - 9 pm
  • Shift Structure: Two seven-hour shifts per operating day (8am-3pm & 3pm-9pm)
  • Benefits: No full-time benefits offered

Responsibilities

As part of the Koteewi Trails team, you will be involved in a variety of activities beyond trail guiding. Our responsibilities include:

  • Working with children through small groups, boot camps, and school programs
  • Engaging with the public, including those with varying levels of riding experience
  • Assisting with birthday parties, pony rides, events, and the "First Time Horse Experience"
  • Performing horse care duties such as feeding, grooming, tacking, and cleaning facilities
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of trails, entry areas, and bathrooms

  11. Complete beginner, intermediate, and advanced instruction classes before May 2025
  12. Able to use judgement to make the call on whether to continue to the or trail or not with guest
  13. Able to pass a background check

Skills and Experience

  1. Experience with Natural Horsemanship & Groundwork
  2. Experienced rider at walk, trot, and canter
  3. Ability to groom, tack, and safely handle horses the way we show you
  4. Willingness to ride any horse confidently
  5. Problem-solving and out-of-the-box thinking abilities on and off the trails
  6. Basic First Aid knowledge is advantageous
  7. Spanish-speaking skills are a plus
  8. Ensure that horses have received warm up prior to rides
  9. Proper saddle fit, girth sizing, bit size
  10. Ability to instruct guest on proper grip on rein and tips on controlling their horse
  11. Assist guest with proper mounting and dismounting
